At one time I worked with a very small firm handling marketing for new home builders. It was great -- while the boom lasted. Now I'm a freelancer with clients in multiple fields (no home builders at the moment!) and I feel MUCH more comfortable, because as you note, all my eggs are not all in one basket. I couldn't agree more with you. The insights of Peter Drucker are also behind the book Reinvent Your Enterprise by Jack Berstrand. It focuses on helping people improve their companies faster by adopting the NEXT frontier of management: systematically improving the productivity of those who work with their brains, not their backs -- the "knowledge workers," so to speak. Lots of good info. (And the book is endorsed by the Drucker Institute.)
