21stNews.com is a comprehensive Web site about the future of journalism and the news business. It is published by Evolution Strategies, LLC, a new media consulting firm. Grant Perry, the founder of Evolution Strategies, is the editor of 21stNews and is developing the Project for Global Media Entrepreneurship. The Project’s mission is to provide an educational and research platform to boost media entrepreneurship among individual entrepreneurs and within established media companies around the world.
Perry was an award-winning journalist at CNN, where he was a New York-based business correspondent and then anchor of CNN International’s London-based program, World Business Today. As a new media consultant and executive in Europe and the United States, Perry helped raise venture capital and oversaw development of online video programming for Yahoo, Salon.com, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and Francis Ford Coppola.
Perry is an adjunct communications professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches “Journalism in the Digital Age,” a course in the “Communication in Contemporary Society” masters degree program. The course explores the impact of citizen journalism, social networking sites, online video, mobile technology and other aspects of new media on the media industry and the practice of traditional and online journalism. The course also examines issues relating to the “digital journalist as entrepreneur.” He also teaches “Spokesperson Development and Training” at Johns Hopkins and has taught at American University’s School of Communication.
Perry is a Senior Enterprise Fellow at the University of Essex’s School of Entrepreneurship and Business in Southend-on-Sea, England. He is a mentor in the Knight International Journalism Fellowship program. Perry is a member of the Washington, DC Bar and the Online News Association.
